Me: "Hey, want to go to the toy store?"
Gabe: "Yes!"
Me: "Oh, no. Looks like the toy store is closed."
G: "Oh well."
Me: "I guess we'll have to go to school."
G: *womp, womp*
I love this conversation because (a) we've been having this exact exchange every morning for over a year and we both still think it's funny, and (b) the kid knows how to do a sad trombone, when to do it, and why it's funny.
I . . . couldn't be more proud.

One year later....
It's our first anniversary or, as I like to call it, another excuse to make something super cheeseball.

Let's talk about today.
Let's talk about Monday.
Let's talk about a sore throat.
Let's talk about wind chill.
And hat hair.
And let's talk about a blue scarf and a yellow Metro Card.
Let's talk about people-watching in a cafe.
Let's talk about a hot cup of tea.
Let's talk about the sunlight hitting the table.
Let's talk about indie music playing quietly in the background.
And let's talk about me peering into the cup, and how that red-brown tea reflects my own soul.
Let's talk about how that cup of tea knows me.
And knows who I want to be.
Who I was meant to be.
Let's talk about discouragement. And hope. And passion and laughter and let's talk about love.
Let's talk about good life.
And good love.
And good tea.
